Initially Stuart was invited to write sound for an exhibition of art and sculpture work at Sancreed House in West Cornwall. He was subsequently taken with the abstract work of one of the participating artists, John Krcma.
Thus, began a collaboration culminating in an installation piece for the same exhibition, comprising of seven of John's paintings together with sound created by Stuart specifically for John's art work.
"I have never been so affected by art before - as soon as I saw John's work I knew I wanted to write the sound of his paintings."
Stuart borrowed two paintings at a time for his studio, as he set about writing the sound.
"The artwork sat in my studio. I lived and breathed John's paintings for two to three months - feeling into their nature, and, at the same time, playing around with sounds until I found something that would reflect the nature of the artwork".
The installation attracted many insightful comments and inspired a number of artists into writing and painting their own responses.
"I think it surprised and delighted both John and I as to the nature of the reactions to our installation. I also had this feeling that his art had an ability to make my sound more accessible and vice versa."
